The Department of Bengali at University B.T. & Evening College is committed to the study,
preservation and critical engagement with Bengali language and literature, one of the
richest literary traditions of the Indian subcontinent. The department provides students
with opportunities to explore classical and modern literary texts, literary criticism, and the
cultural history associated with Bengali intellectual traditions.
The study of Bengali offers diverse professional opportunities in fields such as journalism,
publishing, translation, interpretation, advertising, cultural administration and tourism.
Through its curriculum, the department aims to develop linguistic competence, analytical
skills and cultural awareness among students.
Affiliated with the University of North Bengal, the department has adopted the Four-Year
Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP
2020). The academic structure encourages interdisciplinary learning while maintaining a
