The college has a duly constituted Teachers’ Council, which serves as an important academic and consultative body ensuring participatory governance and a harmonious professional environment. All teachers of the college, including the Principal, are members of the Council. The Principal acts as the Chairperson and presides over its meetings, thereby fostering a spirit of cooperation and collective responsibility between the teaching community and the administration.
At the commencement of every academic year, the Principal convenes a meeting of the Teachers’ Council with at least seven days’ notice, specifying the date, time, and venue, for the election of the Secretary of the Council. The Secretary, who must be a member of the Council other than the Principal or the Teacher-in-Charge, is elected by ballot. The elected Secretary holds office for a term of one year from the date of election, continuing until the successor assumes charge, if necessary.
Meetings of the Teachers’ Council are convened by the Secretary, or in his absence by the Chairperson, on dates and at times and places determined by the Chairperson with at least three days’ notice. The agenda of each meeting is prepared by the Secretary with the approval of the Chairperson or, in the Chairperson’s absence, by the Teacher-in-Charge. Provision is made to include any item in the agenda if so desired by one-third of the members.
The Secretary maintains the minutes of all meetings in official custody, duly signed by both the Chairperson and the Secretary. These minutes are presented for confirmation in the subsequent meeting, ensuring transparency and continuity in decision-making. All matters, including the election of the Secretary, are decided by majority vote of members present. In the event of a tie, the Chairperson resolves the matter by drawing lots. For any meeting of the Teachers’ Council, the quorum is one-third of the total membership plus one.
The Teachers’ Council plays a vital advisory role, offering guidance to the Principal on academic and institutional matters such as student admissions, student welfare, library and laboratory arrangements, teaching facilities, and the overall expansion and development of the college. The Principal normally acts in accordance with the decisions taken by the Council, reflecting mutual trust and respect between the administration and faculty members.
Through regular meetings, shared responsibilities, and democratic decision-making practices, the Teachers’ Council sustains a healthy and constructive relationship between the Principal and the teaching staff. This collaborative framework significantly contributes to academic excellence, institutional growth, and a supportive collegiate atmosphere in the college.
