Best Practices

The system of Internal Assessment in the college is diversified and continuous. Evaluation is conducted through class tests, open-book examinations, MCQ-based tests, seminar presentations, project and assignment submissions, field work, and brainstorming sessions. This multi-dimensional approach helps assess students’ learning outcomes more comprehensively.

To ensure the balanced physical and mental development of students, the college encourages participation in a wide range of cultural and co-curricular activities. Several clubs—such as Drama Club, Music Club, Art and Craft Club, Dance Club, and others—regularly organize programmes that nurture creativity and teamwork. Alongside mainstream music and dance forms, the college also promotes local folk traditions so that students remain connected with their cultural roots. The NSS Unit plays a significant role in this regard by working with the adopted village, Takagach, where awareness programmes on health, hygiene, and cultural development are regularly conducted.

The College indeed places considerable emphasis on community engagement and social responsibility. Through various outreach initiatives, the college encourages students to develop a sense of civic duty and environmental awareness. Activities such as campus beautification drives, tree plantation programmes, and blood donation camps are regularly organized with active participation from students and staff. The college also observes important national and international days—such as Independence Day, International Yoga Day, World Environment Day, and National Youth Day—to promote awareness of social, cultural, and environmental issues. These programmes not only contribute to community welfare but also install values of service, discipline, and collective responsibility among students.

Situated in the heritage town of Cooch Behar, the college is conscious of its responsibility to preserve and promote local history and cultural heritage. In collaboration with the Cooch Behar Archives, the college organizes heritage walks and workshops to familiarize students with the royal heritage and historical significance of the region. The college also collaborates with the Cooch Behar Sahitya Sabha, assisting in the preservation and documentation of rare manuscripts and literary materials.

The college is closely associated with Students’ Health Home (SHH) to ensure accessible medical support for students. In addition, the Mental Wellness Cell works actively to promote awareness about mental health and to provide counselling support whenever necessary.

The college is committed to empowering students with awareness of their legal rights and responsibilities. In collaboration with reputed and esteemed organizations, legal awareness programmes and counselling sessions are organized for students. These initiatives provide guidance on issues such as students’ rights, cyber safety, gender justice, and legal remedies available in cases of discrimination or harassment. Such efforts help students become informed and responsible citizens capable of navigating social and legal challenges with confidence.

To maintain a safe and inclusive campus environment, the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Grievance Redressal Cell remain vigilant in addressing any form of harassment or grievance faced by students or staff members.

In keeping with the vision of NEP 2020, the college has introduced several Add-on Courses, including modules related to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), thereby connecting contemporary education with traditional intellectual heritage. The B.Ed. Department and the Undergraduate Department of Education also organize Inclusive Education Programmes to sensitize students to the needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.

Ensuring the safety, security, and empowerment of female students is a priority of the institution. The college encourages women students to participate in physical fitness and self-development programmes designed to enhance confidence, strength, and self-reliance. Activities such as sports training, self-defence sessions, and physical fitness programmes are organized periodically. These initiatives not only promote health and well-being but also empower women students to develop resilience, self-confidence, and a sense of personal security within and beyond the campus.

Cooch Behar district has a rich cultural legacy where folk traditions and the intellectual heritage of the nineteenth-century Bengal Renaissance coexist. In this context, the college organizes cultural exchange programmes with students from different regions, encouraging intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

In terms of infrastructure and safety, the college campus is equipped with a comprehensive fire safety system. Plans for the implementation of rainwater harvesting and solar energy facilities have also been initiated and are expected to be operational in the near future, reflecting the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Future Initiatives

To further strengthen its best practices, the college aims to expand its e-governance system, introduce more skill-oriented add-on courses, enhance community outreach through NSS activities, and implement green campus initiatives such as and waste management programmes.

Through these practices, University B.T. and Evening College strives to create a holistic educational environment where academic excellence, cultural awareness, social responsibility, and student well-being grow together.
