Under NEP 2020 framework the history department offers a comprehensive syllabus aims to introduce students to historical thinking, interpretation and writing skills concentrating on understanding the past through evidence and critical analysis.
Major Course:
The History Major course under NEP 2020 at University of North Bengal (NBU) is designed as a four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP) that provides a comprehensive understanding of Indian, regional, and world history. The course follows a chronological and thematic approach, covering ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods, along with historiography and research methodology in the advanced semesters. It emphasizes critical thinking, analysis of historical sources, research skills, and academic writing, preparing students for higher studies, research, teaching and related careers.
Minor Course:
The History Minor course offers a foundational understanding of major themes in Indian and world history through selected, structured papers. The course builds a foundational understanding of history while nurturing analytical ability and independent thinking, enabling students to explore historical perspectives in connection with their primary field of study.
Multidisciplinary or Interdisciplinary Course:
MDC/IDC is discipline-specific multidisciplinary courses which offers alongside major/minor subjects. The course introduce students to focused historical themes from multiple perspectives, linking regional and broader historical contexts.
