Under the new framework of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP)2023-24 curriculum under the University of North Bengal, the department of Political Science of the college has adopted several updated papers e.g, Global Politics, Public Administration, Issues in Indian Politics, Foreign Policy of India, State and Society in India, Fundamentals of the Constitution of India etc.
In its structural framework the department has Practical Application Programme Training in Youth Parliament.
On Mock Parliament students are assigned to perform their specific role as per parliamentary procedure.
The practical application conducted by the department is also related to Assignments, Group Discussion, Fieldwork, visit to the Parliament and Legislative Assembly, Project and Viva Voce.
Under NEP of the University of North Bengal the department has introduced the courses of political science in two- fold structures: Major & Minor
Major: The Major course offers in- depth study of political science specially in Political Theory & Thought, the Constitution of India, International Relations etc. It develops advanced textual understanding, analytical ability and research aptitude. It also prepares the students for higher studies and academic careers.
Minor: The Minor courses provide foundational knowledge of political science. It enables students from other disciplines to acquire knowledge from inter- disciplinary perspective on events and changes of politics.
Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC):
SEC focusses on practical application on the following papers:
1) Introduction to legal awareness
2) Training in Youth Parliament Programme
2) Legislative Procedures in India and
2) Functioning of local bodies in India.
Inter Disciplinary Courses (IDC):
The department conducts MCQ evaluation on the following:
1) Human Rights
2) International Relations and
3) Public Administration.
Lecture Method: Based on Texts, Theories and Thoughts on Western and Indian Politics are imparted through Lecture Method. Emphasis is also given on Western as well as Indian political Thinkers.
Interaction and Discussion Based Learning: Classroom discussion and question answer sessions encourage critical thinking and active participation. Students are motivated to interpret texts independently.
Tutorial and Mentoring Support: Students are divided into small groups and imparted them in their tutorial classes build up communication to reach to the less developed students.
Student Seminars allow the students to present papers help to build up elocution capabilities and confidence on the topics/ subjects.
Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA): Evaluation is conducted through periodical Class Tests, Assignments, Projects and presentations and on their Attendances in their Classes.
ICT- Enabled Teaching: Digital resources, e-texts and audio- visual materials are used to supplement the learning more accessible.
The department actively encourages learning outside the conventional classroom setting:
Seminars and Academic Lectures: Exposure to research and expert perspectives.
Extension & Community Engagement: Linking economic theory to real-world issues through field projects or internships.
Student Participation in Competitions: Encouraging participation in debate, paper presentations, and economics quiz competitions.
Seminars and Academic Lectures: The department organizes Seminars, Special Lectures by Resource Persons/ Academicians to different advanced and current issues in politics.
Cultural and Literary Activities: Observance of Constitution Day, National Voters’ Day, Republic and Independence Days, Human Rights Day, International Women’s Day etc are done with due respect and exposure.
Educational Visits and Field Exposures: Students are encouraged to visit and survey nearest villages to assess the development and failure about the works of the village Panchayats. Students visit Courts to understand functions of Lok Adalat’s and Free Legal Aid activities.
Extension and Community Programmes: The department motivates students to participate in outreach activities either in association with NSS unit of the college or independently by the department.
Students Participation in Sports Competitions: Students are encouraged to take part in college and district level sports and athletic competitions to flourish their physical fitness, creativity and space for entertainment.
