Drama & Theatre Club

About Club:

The Drama Club of University B.T. & Evening College, first took root around 2004, emerging as a vibrant cultural space for students passionate about theatre. In the years that followed, the club steadily grew into a dynamic platform of performance and creative exploration. During the first visit of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006, as well as the second cycle of accreditation in 2013, the visiting peer teams warmly appreciated the theatrical initiatives and artistic commitment of the club’s members.

With the active collaboration of this Drama Club and "Roopkatha", a renowned group theatre organisation of CoochBehar, the Department of English organised a National Seminar in 2015. The occasion became memorable with the presence of eminent theatre personalities such as Debshankar Haldar and Gautam Halder, who not only interacted with students but also staged powerful theatrical performances. On another memorable occasion, the distinguished theatre practitioner Rudraprasad Sengupta graced the college by participating in a seminar jointly organised by the Department of Bengali and the Drama Club of this college.

Situated in the culturally rich town of Cooch Behar—a place that quietly carries the legacy of Bengal’s intellectual and cultural awakening—the Drama Club has always worked with a deeper purpose. It strives to nurture the artistic sensibilities of students, many of whom come from ordinary families of this peripheral yet culturally vibrant region. Through theatre workshops, rehearsals, and stage productions, the club seeks to cultivate imagination, confidence, and collective creativity.

Although the disruptions of the COVID-19 years cast a temporary stillness over its activities, the spirit of the club remains alive. The club now looks forward to renewing its energy, reviving its creative momentum, and continuing its journey of shaping young minds through the transformative art of theatre.
